Welcome back to No Filter Fridays — the space where we drop the glossy filters and talk about the messy truth of leadership, work, and motherhood.
Some people have corner offices.
I’ve got an 8-seater Kia Carnival parked outside soccer training.
It’s not just a mum taxi.
It’s my office.
My therapy space.
And sometimes the only quiet I get all week.
The Mum Taxi That Turned Into a Corner Office
It started out of necessity.
Tuesday nights were soccer training.
While my son was running drills, I’d be in the car with my laptop balanced on my knees, dialing into Teams meetings with colleagues in Singapore and the UK.
Other parents thought I was catching up on emails.
The truth? I was running projects, aligning global stakeholders, and moving strategy forward—from the back of a parked car.
It wasn’t glamorous.
The Wi-Fi sometimes dropped out.
I prayed no one would hear the whistle blows in the background.
But work got done.
The Double Life of the Kia Carnival
By day, the Kia Carnival ferries kids, backpacks, and half-finished snacks.
By night, it transforms.
-
A coworking pod.
-
A podcast listening booth.
-
A place where I can write, plan, or even cry without interruption.
I’ve sent contract notes while parked at Woolies.
I’ve had coaching conversations in the Kiss-and-Ride zone.
I’ve closed out entire presentations before school pick-up.
And sometimes, I’ve just sat there in silence.
Because silence is its own kind of therapy.
Leadership Lessons From the Driver’s Seat
Here’s the thing:
Leadership isn’t built in perfect conditions.
It’s not the fancy office.
It’s not the noise-cancelling headphones.
It’s showing up when circumstances are less than ideal.
It’s adapting when things don’t go to plan.
It’s creating focus in the middle of chaos.
If you can run a global meeting from a Kia Carnival, you can lead anywhere.
“Your car might not have four walls and a desk.
But if it gives you space to think, breathe, and lead—
that’s an office worth keeping.”
— The Mama Assembly™
If your “office” runs on car coffee, grab the Slay the Day, or Just Survive It. Both Are Valid mug from The Mama Assembly store.
Because even a parking-lot CEO deserves good caffeine.
Final Thought
The car might not look like much from the outside.
But for many of us, it’s where work gets done, problems get solved, and quiet moments get claimed.
So next time you see a mum sitting in her car, laptop glowing or coffee in hand—know she’s not just waiting.
She’s leading.
She’s adapting.
She’s creating space in the middle of the chaos.
