About Gill | The Mama Assembly – Real Talk for Real Mums

This isn’t a crisis. This is a comeback.

Hi, I’m Gill — founder of The Mama Assembly. Aussie mum, creative force, former corporate soldier, and stubbornly optimistic realist.

I became a mum at 39 and was lovingly labelled a “geriatric pregnancy” (cheers, hospital system). After a rough birth, breastfeeding struggles, and a week in hospital wondering if I’d already failed motherhood, I realised one thing: if I was going to survive this, I’d need to keep my sense of humour.

And that humour — along with a serious case of creative curiosity — has carried me ever since.

"Motherhood is part magic, part mess, and part caffeine. We’re here for all of it."

✂️ From One Tunic to a Whole Movement

When I asked my mum to teach me to sew, we started on a tunic. We never finished it.

Because I became obsessed.

That $99 Elna from Spotlight turned into a whirlwind of cushions, face masks, heat packs — and eventually my first handmade business: Crafty T.

Since then, I’ve kept creating, growing, and evolving. I launched:

  • Harlan House & Home – handmade and personalised home goods

  • Swear Jar Mama – a cheeky brand that started before I even knew what it would become

  • Momentum Mama – my space for mindset, motivation and the messy middle

🔥 Enter: The Mama Assembly

In 2025, I was retrenched.

And instead of falling apart, I finally put it all together.

I created The Mama Assembly — a place where I could say what I needed to say, build what I was meant to build, and connect with other mamas who are figuring it out as they go.

This isn’t a midlife crisis —
it’s a f*cking awakening.

Here, I share the behind-the-scenes of my creative life:
The tools I love. The messes I make. The lessons I’ve learned the hard way.
And the truth that so many of us are afraid to say out loud: this motherhood thing is beautiful, brutal, hilarious, and hard.

💬 Final Word

The Mama Assembly is more than a brand —
it’s a movement, a mess, and a bit of magic.

If you're here, you're already part of it.
So pull up a chair. Make something. Break something.
Say the thing out loud. Laugh too loud. Start again.

You're in good company.
