Issue 3: Why Saying “Just One Minute” Isn’t Failing — It’s Surviving (and I’m Here for It

If I Had a Dollar for Every Time I Said “Just One Minute”

The Mantra Every Mum Knows

“Just one minute!”

I’ve said it so many times I could probably open a café called One Minute and make a fortune.

Between snack requests, school notes, lost shoes, and “MUMMM LOOK AT THIS” moments, those three words have become the unofficial soundtrack of motherhood — part plea, part battle cry.

But here’s the truth:
Saying “just one minute” doesn’t mean we’re stalling, ignoring, or failing.

It means we’re surviving. And we’re doing a damn good job of it.

Why “Just One Minute” Is Actually a Genius Mum Move

Let’s be real: modern motherhood is a constant mental ping-pong match. You’re halfway through packing lunchboxes when someone needs help unblocking the toilet. You’re trying to reply to an email while signing a school permission slip with your other hand.

In that chaos, just one minute becomes your emergency breathing room.

Here’s why it matters:

  • It gives you space to finish a thought.

  • It teaches your kids that boundaries are okay.

  • It helps you respond, not react — because yelling “WHAT NOW?!” isn’t exactly peaceful parenting.

You’re not putting them off. You’re protecting your sanity. And that’s something to be proud of.

Mums Don’t Need Permission to Breathe — But Here It Is Anyway

If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying “just one minute,” I’m here to tell you: please don’t.

That small phrase is often the difference between holding it together and falling apart. It’s not a failure — it’s a tiny act of self-preservation in a day filled with everyone else’s needs.

You’re allowed to pause.
You’re allowed to finish your tea, take that breath, or scroll for a minute without narrating every movement to your child.

Sanity-Savers for Your “Just One Minute” Moments

Sometimes, that pause is when I sneak in something just for me — jotting down a design idea, browsing inspiration, or ordering something that’ll make mum life easier.

Here are my go-tos:

  • My Amazon Wishlist — snack hacks, family games, and genius time-savers.

  • Creative Fabrica — a treasure trove of fonts, graphics, and digital designs if you want to start a little creative side hustle.

  • Printful — my chaos-friendly partner for turning designs into products without dealing with stock or shipping.

Real Talk: The Pause Is the Power

Those “just one minute” moments aren’t weakness.

They’re strength, disguised as a pause.

They’re how we:

  • Avoid snapping

  • Finish something important

  • Teach our kids that we matter too

It’s not about putting ourselves first.
It’s about not always putting ourselves last.
